Celtics, Blazers Discussed Jaylen Brown Trade Framework

Jaylen Brown's name is still moving through the trade market.

MassLive's Brian Robb reported that the Celtics and Trail Blazers have discussed a Brown trade, but the early outline of a Portland package comes with limits. League sources told MassLive that Deni Avdija would not be on the table, and Donovan Clingan would also be difficult for Boston to pry away.

That points the talks toward draft capital. Portland controls Milwaukee's future first-round picks from 2028 through 2030, plus several of its own first-rounders. How deep the Blazers are willing to go into that pool may decide whether Boston has any reason to keep listening.

The Clingan piece matters because Portland does not have strong center depth behind him, with Robert Williams headed for free agency. Trading Clingan for Brown would add a star wing and create another roster hole at the same time.

For the Celtics, a pick-heavy return would be a bet on flexibility while Jayson Tatum's prime remains the real clock. Brown is the proven player here. Portland's most realistic offer may be more about future value than the win-now help Boston would prefer.
