The Clippers are damaged, but they are not acting like a team ready to disappear.
According to a report citing Jake Fischer, Los Angeles remains focused on building a playoff-caliber roster for 2026-27 despite losing Kawhi Leonard and absorbing major NBA sanctions. The team is not believed to be planning a long rebuild.
That is a hard lane to hold. The NBA punished the Clippers with a $30 million fine, the loss of five first-round picks and a one-year suspension for owner Steve Ballmer after its salary-cap circumvention investigation connected to Leonard. Leonard was also fined $700,000.
The roster is no longer built around the same centerpiece. Leonard's exit changes the ceiling, and the Clippers now have to find a workable identity around the remaining veteran group. The report points to Brandon Ingram becoming a primary offensive option, with Darius Garland, Bradley Beal, Brook Lopez, Max Strus, Derrick Jones Jr. and Kris Dunn also in the picture.
That is enough name value to avoid a teardown. It also leaves little margin. Without Kawhi and without a normal draft-pick runway, the Clippers' path is less about patience and more about staying credible right away.
