The Blazers' arena fight is getting sharper by the day.
Portland City Council President Jamie Dunphy questioned Tom Dundon's approach to the Moda Center negotiations, saying the new Blazers owner may be "looking for an excuse to blame the city" if the situation gets worse. The remark came as Portland officials continue pressing the team for clearer answers on the arena deal.
The dispute is no longer just about renovation math. KATU reported that Dunphy has invited Blazers leaders to a July 30 public work session, while earlier reporting has framed the project around a major public-funding package, a long-term lease and city demands attached to taxpayer support.
Dundon's ownership group has pushed back on parts of the city's draft term sheet. City officials, meanwhile, have accused the franchise of not supplying enough information on renovation specifics and economic-impact details.
That is why Dunphy's comment landed with force. It put the relocation anxiety in plain language, even if no official move has been announced. Portland now has a public session on the calendar and a relationship with its NBA team that looks increasingly strained.
