Kyrie Irving's name is back on the league's watch list, but not because Dallas has made him available.
ESPN's Tim MacMahon and Marc Spears reported that NBA teams are monitoring Irving's situation with the Mavericks. Dallas still values the guard, according to the report, while the roster is increasingly being shaped around 19-year-old Cooper Flagg.
The important line is restraint. This is not a reported trade request from Irving, and it is not a report that the Mavericks are actively shopping him. MacMahon framed a move to a contender as something that could eventually make sense for both sides if Dallas decides its timeline belongs more clearly to Flagg.
Irving missed the entire 2025-26 season after tearing his ACL, so any real market would depend on how he looks when healthy. Spears said teams would have interest if Irving gets back to form, and noted that his relationship with Masai Ujiri could matter if the guard ever looks beyond Dallas.
For now, it is a monitoring situation. The Mavericks need veteran creation around Flagg, but rival teams are already testing the idea that Irving's long-term fit may become less certain.
