The NBA is pushing back on ESPN's latest description of the Clippers investigation.
According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the league issued a statement disputing ESPN's reporting on its review of possible salary-cap circumvention involving LA, Steve Ballmer and Kawhi Leonard. "ESPN's article regarding the LA Clippers investigation - for which the NBA declined to cooperate - contains numerous and significant inaccuracies," the statement said. The league added that the results will be clear once the investigation is concluded.
ESPN reported Monday that the NBA had found no evidence Ballmer directly moved money to Leonard through team sponsors and that the sides had been negotiating a resolution. The NBA did not specify which parts of that report it believes are inaccurate.
That leaves the public picture messy. The Clippers have not been cleared, the league has not announced discipline, and the NBPA had not added its own comment in The Athletic's account. For now, the only official piece is that the investigation is still open.
