De'Aaron Fox

Fox is one of the fastest and most explosive point guards in the NBA, a blur in transition whose end-to-end speed and downhill attacking style have made him a nightmare for opposing defenses for nearly a decade. Born De'Aaron Martez Fox on December 20, 1997, in Katy, Texas, he attended Cypress Lakes High School in Cypress, Texas. As a junior, he averaged 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. He played for Houston Hoops in the Nike EYBL circuit, earning first-team honors alongside future pros Justin Jackson, Justise Winslow, and Kelly Oubre Jr. As a senior, he averaged 32.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. He was named a McDonald's All-American and shared MVP honors with future Kentucky teammate Malik Monk at the Jordan Brand Classic, leading the East to a 131-117 win. He was also named to the USA Junior National Team and invited to the NBPA Top 100 camp. He led Cypress Lakes to three state playoff appearances, including a regional final, and scored 50 points in a game twice.

In the class of 2016, Fox was ranked the second-best point guard behind Lonzo Ball and the consensus No. 6 overall recruit by Rivals, ESPN, and 247Sports. He committed to Kentucky over Kansas, Louisville, Arizona, and LSU on November 12, 2015, stating that Kentucky felt like a family. At Kentucky, Fox wasted no time establishing himself. On November 28, 2016, he recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists against Arizona State, the first Kentucky triple-double since Chris Mills in 1988. On March 12, 2017, he scored 18 points and was named SEC Tournament MVP after Kentucky defeated Arkansas. In the NCAA tournament, he posted 19 points against Northern Kentucky, 14 against Wichita State, and a career-high 39 points against UCLA in the Sweet 16, leading Kentucky to the Elite Eight. Kentucky lost 75-73 to North Carolina on a last-second Luke Maye jumper. Fox averaged 16.7 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.0 rebounds on the season and declared for the 2017 draft after one season.

The Sacramento Kings selected Fox fifth overall on June 22, 2017. He signed his rookie contract on July 8. He made his NBA debut on October 18, 2017, with 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists against Houston. As a rookie, he averaged 11.6 points and 4.4 assists and was named to the Rising Stars Challenge. In his second season, he broke out. On November 1, 2018, against Atlanta, he recorded his first career triple-double with 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 15 assists, becoming the only player besides LeBron James in 2005 to record a 30-point triple-double before age 21. He improved across every category, averaging 17.3 points and 7.3 assists, and finished second in Most Improved Player voting behind Pascal Siakam.

On November 25, 2020, Fox signed a five-year, $163 million contract extension. On February 8, 2021, he was named Western Conference Player of the Week for the first time, averaging 31.0 points and nearly 9.0 assists. On March 26, 2021, he scored a then-career-high 44 points against Golden State. On March 29, he was named Player of the Week again, averaging nearly 37.0 points on 64.0 percent shooting. On March 5, 2022, he tied his then-career-high with 44 points against Dallas. On November 5, 2022, he hit a buzzer-beating, game-winning three in overtime against Orlando.

The 2022-23 season was Fox's apex in Sacramento. He earned his first All-Star selection, was named to the All-NBA Third Team, won the inaugural NBA Clutch Player of the Year award, and led the Kings to their first postseason berth since 2006. His speed and ability to score in critical moments made him one of the most dangerous closers in the league. In 2024, he led the league in steals, demonstrating his two-way impact. Despite individual brilliance, the Kings struggled to advance past the play-in and first round, leading to speculation about the roster's ceiling. On February 6, 2025, the Kings traded Fox to the San Antonio Spurs.
