Luke Kennard

Kennard is an American guard known for elite three-point shooting and offensive efficiency. Drafted 12th overall in 2017, he has carved out a lengthy NBA career as one of the most accurate shooters in league history, with a career percentage that ranks second all-time among players with significant attempts. He has played for five franchises and contributed as a complementary scorer and floor-spacer.

Born on June 24, 1996, in Franklin, Ohio, Kennard attended Franklin High School near Dayton. He was named the Parade National Player of the Year and Ohio Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year as both a junior and senior. He also played football as a quarterback for three seasons, throwing with his right hand despite shooting a basketball left-handed. He committed to Duke during his junior year of high school.

At Duke, Kennard played two seasons. As a freshman, he averaged 11.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. As a sophomore, he averaged 19.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while leading the team in three-point shooting at 43.8 percent and free-throw shooting at 85.6 percent. He was named first-team All-ACC and second-team All-American. After the season, he declared for the 2017 NBA draft alongside teammates Jayson Tatum, Harry Giles, and Frank Jackson.

The Detroit Pistons selected Kennard 12th overall in 2017. He made his NBA debut on October 20, 2017, scoring 11 points with two steals against Washington. He spent three seasons in Detroit before being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers, where his shooting became a valued asset. He later played for Memphis, Atlanta, and the Los Angeles Lakers, maintaining his reputation as an elite floor-spacer.

Kennard is a pure shooter with one of the most efficient three-point strokes in NBA history. His offensive game is built on spot-up shooting, relocation, and mid-range touch. He is not a high-volume creator off the dribble but thrives in structured offenses that move the ball and create open looks. Defensively, he is limited by lateral quickness but compensates with positioning and effort.
