Jevon Carter

Carter is an American guard who has built an NBA career as a tenacious perimeter defender and energy player since being drafted in the second round in 2018. He has played for multiple franchises, bringing the pedigree of two national Defensive Player of the Year awards and a historic college career at West Virginia.

Born Leroy Jevon Carter on September 14, 1995, in Maywood, Illinois, he attended Proviso East High School and played AAU basketball with Jalen Brunson. He was a three-star recruit rated 299th nationally by 247Sports and committed to West Virginia over offers from Akron, Dartmouth, Kent State, and others.

At West Virginia, Carter became one of the premier defensive players in college basketball. As a junior, he averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists and won Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, the Lefty Driesell Award, and the NABC Defensive Player of the Year. He declared for the 2017 draft but returned for his senior season. In 2017-18, he became West Virginia's all-time steals leader and the first major conference player to reach 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists, and 300 steals. He won the inaugural Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, repeated as Lefty Driesell and NABC Defensive Player of the Year, and was named a consensus second-team All-American.

The Memphis Grizzlies selected Carter with the 32nd overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft. He has since played for the Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, Chicago Bulls, and Orlando Magic. He has contributed as a defensive specialist and backup guard at every stop.

Carter is a tenacious, ball-pressuring guard with active hands, elite lateral quickness, and a willingness to take on the toughest defensive assignments.
