About Luguentz Dort
Dort is a Canadian guard who has built his NBA career on elite perimeter defense and physicality, earning the nickname the Dorture Chamber for his ability to lock down opposing scorers. An undrafted free agent who joined the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2019, he became the longest-tenured player on the roster and was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2025 before winning the NBA championship that same season.
Born on April 19, 1999, in Montreal, Quebec, Dort is the son of Haitian parents who immigrated to Canada from Saint-Marc in their early twenties. His father worked as a taxi driver and owner, while his mother made clothes for a manufacturer. Dort was raised speaking Haitian Creole and grew up in a working-class household before his basketball talent opened doors to the United States.
Dort completed his high school career at the Athlete Institute in Mono, Ontario, where he was rated as high as a five-star recruit and ranked among the top players in Canada. He committed to Arizona State and made an immediate impact as a freshman, earning second-team All-Pac-12 Conference honors, all-defensive team recognition, and the conference's freshman of the year award.
After going undrafted in the 2019 NBA draft, Dort signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder as a free agent. He quickly established himself as a defensive stopper, using his strength, lateral quickness, and relentless effort to guard the league's top perimeter scorers. He signed a multi-year contract in 2020 and became a fixture in the Thunder rotation. In 2025, he was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team and won the NBA Finals with Oklahoma City.
Dort is a defensive specialist with elite on-ball pressure and the physical strength to bump opponents off their spots. Offensively, he is a slasher and spot-up shooter who attacks closeouts and finishes through contact. His three-point shooting has improved over time, though he remains primarily valued for his defensive impact. He thrives in isolation defensive assignments and has become one of the most respected perimeter defenders in the league.
