Jalen Williams

Williams is an American wing who has developed into an All-Star and NBA champion with the Oklahoma City Thunder after entering the league as the 12th overall pick in 2022. His path included a three-year stay at Santa Clara, a late growth spurt in high school, and a rapid rise from a lightly recruited guard to a lottery selection.

Born on April 14, 2001, Williams played at Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona. He began as a six-foot point guard and grew five inches between his sophomore and senior years. As a senior, he averaged more than 25 points per game and was named the Chandler Unified School District Player of the Year and the Region Offensive Player of the Year. Major recruiting services rated him a three-star recruit, and he committed to Santa Clara over Hofstra and Nevada.

At Santa Clara, Williams played three seasons and steadily expanded his role. As a freshman, he started the final 23 games, led the team in steals, and averaged 7.7 points. In his sophomore season, he started all 18 appearances and raised his scoring average to 11.5 points while recording his first career double-double in the WCC tournament. In his junior season, he emerged as the team's primary scorer, finishing second in the WCC with 18.0 points per game on 51.3 percent shooting. He scored 30 points against Hawaii, hit a game-winner against BYU, and was named First Team All-WCC and a finalist for the Lou Henson Award.

Williams declared for the 2022 NBA draft and was selected 12th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder. In the NBA, he quickly became a cornerstone of the Thunder's young core. In 2025, he was named to his first All-Star Game and earned All-NBA honors, later capturing an NBA championship that same season.

Williams is a long, smooth wing who scores efficiently and uses his length to disrupt passing lanes. He operates as a secondary ball-handler, attacks closeouts, and has developed into a reliable shooter.
