Christian Braun

Braun is a high-energy wing whose value lies in defensive versatility, cutting, transition play, and a rapidly improving offensive game. Drafted 21st overall by Denver in 2022, he contributed to the Nuggets 2023 championship run as a rookie, becoming one of only five players in basketball history to capture an NCAA title and an NBA title in consecutive seasons. Born Christian Nicholas Braun on April 17, 2001, in Overland Park, Kansas, he grew up in a basketball family. His father, Donny, was a former Kansas walk-on, his mother and aunt played at Missouri, his uncle played at Missouri, and his older brother Parker later played at Kansas. The family was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. Braun attended Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, where as a senior he averaged 27.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game and led the Huskies to a third straight Class 6A state title. He was named Mr. Kansas Basketball and Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year before committing to Kansas over Kansas State, Illinois, and Missouri. On April 4, 2022, the school declared that day Christian Braun Day.

As a freshman at Kansas, Braun averaged 5.3 points and 2.9 rebounds and earned Big 12 All-Freshman honors. On November 27, 2020, he recorded a career-high 30 points, nine rebounds, and four steals in a 94-72 victory over Saint Joseph's. As a sophomore, he averaged 9.7 points and 5.2 rebounds. He was named Second Team All-Big 12 as a junior and became the 65th player in Kansas history to reach 1,000 points during the Final Four against Villanova, a game in which he scored 10 points and helped the Jayhawks advance. In the national championship against North Carolina, he posted 12 points and 12 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season, defending Caleb Love's final three-point attempt to seal the comeback from a 40-25 halftime deficit.

On April 24, 2022, Braun declared for the NBA draft while maintaining his college eligibility. He confirmed his decision to stay in the draft on May 25 and forego his senior year. The Denver Nuggets selected him 21st overall, and he signed his rookie contract on July 3, 2022.
