Tobias Harris

Harris is an American forward who has built a productive NBA career since being selected in the first round of the 2011 draft. A versatile scorer with size and shooting range, he has played for multiple franchises and established himself as a reliable offensive contributor.

Born Tobias John Harris on July 15, 1992, in Islip, New York, he attended Half Hollow Hills High School West and joined the varsity team as an eighth grader. He transferred to Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School for his junior year, then returned to Half Hollow Hills West for his senior year, earning the 2010 Mr. New York Basketball award and McDonald's All-American honors. He averaged 24.9 points and 9.9 rebounds in 66 total games.

Harris played one season at Tennessee for coach Bruce Pearl, averaging 15.3 points and 7.3 rebounds. He was named a USBWA Freshman All-America second-team selection, second-team All-SEC by the coaches, and SEC All-Freshman Team. He ranked fifth among all freshmen in the six major conferences in scoring.

The Charlotte Bobcats selected Harris 19th overall in the 2011 NBA draft and traded him to the Milwaukee Bucks. He signed his rookie-scale contract on December 10, 2011, and made his NBA debut on January 7, 2012. He appeared in 42 games as a rookie, averaging 5.0 points and 2.4 rebounds.

On February 21, 2013, Harris was traded to the Orlando Magic along with Doron Lamb and Beno Udrih for JJ Redick, Gustavo Ayón, and Ish Smith. His playing time and production increased dramatically in Orlando. On January 24, 2014, he recorded 28 points and a career-high 20 rebounds in a win over the Lakers. On February 7, 2014, he scored a game-winning dunk at the buzzer against Oklahoma City. On March 2, 2014, he scored a career-high 31 points against Philadelphia.

Harris has also played for the Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers. His career earnings are the most of any player in NBA history without an All-Star appearance. He returned to Detroit in 2024.

Harris functions as a versatile scoring forward with size, mid-range touch, and the ability to score inside. His Tennessee freshman season demonstrated immediate offensive polish.
