Bill Foley wants to be at the front of the Las Vegas NBA line.
The Vegas Golden Knights founder and majority owner is pursuing the award of an NBA expansion franchise for Las Vegas, according to KTNV. The league has not awarded a team, but it voted earlier this year to formally explore expansion, and Las Vegas is one of the markets in the discussion.
Foley's argument is built around readiness. His group already controls the Golden Knights, a franchise that began play in 2017 and won the Stanley Cup in 2023. The bid also points to venue rights at T-Mobile Arena and an organization with experience running a major professional team in Las Vegas.
"Las Vegas has earned its place among the great sports cities in America, and an NBA team belongs here," Foley said.
He framed the Golden Knights as the proof of concept. Foley said his group built that team "into a championship organization from the ground up" and is prepared to try the same thing with an NBA franchise.
The message is not just ambition. It is infrastructure.
Foley said Las Vegas has the market, a proven arena and an organization already in place. His stated goal is to be ready "the day the NBA is ready."
He also made clear that the final call belongs to the league. Foley said he respects the NBA's expansion process, the Office of the Commissioner and the Board of Governors, and that his group would work on the league's timeline.
"This is the NBA's decision to make," Foley said. "Our job is to provide the league a Las Vegas option that is ready, credible, and built to last."
That is the pitch in one sentence. Las Vegas has long looked like a likely NBA expansion market; Foley wants his group to look like the ready-made operator.
