The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade market is still built on signals, not completed deals. The latest one is hard to ignore.
Jake Fischer reported through The Stein Line that league sources say Milwaukee has recently carried itself like a franchise expecting to have Miami's No. 13 pick as well as its own No. 10 selection in next week's NBA Draft. The only way the Bucks can pick at No. 13 is if that selection comes from the Heat in an Antetokounmpo trade.
That does not mean a deal is finished. It does mean teams around the league are watching Milwaukee's draft posture closely, because the Bucks do not currently own that Miami pick and would need a major transaction to get it.
Miami and Boston are still the two teams described as having ongoing conversations with Milwaukee. League personnel with knowledge of the situation believe both teams think Antetokounmpo would sign a long-term extension if traded there, which is the only reason either team can justify pushing this far into the process.
The Heat angle is especially clear. Miami has started checking the market for supplementary shooting that could fit around an Antetokounmpo-Bam Adebayo frontcourt. That would be a necessary roster-building step, because pairing two downhill frontcourt stars would place a premium on spacing at every other position.
There are still complications. Fischer also noted that one source called the Jaylen Brown third-team talk premature, pushing back on a social-media trade construction involving the Celtics, Bucks and Clippers. Milwaukee is also believed to prefer attaching Bobby Portis to any Antetokounmpo deal if one comes together.
Portis has a little more than $30 million left on his contract over two seasons, including a $15.6 million player option in 2027-28. Moving that money with Antetokounmpo would change the math for any team trying to build a clean post-trade roster.
For now, the takeaway is simple: Milwaukee is not publicly saying Giannis is gone, but its reported behavior around the No. 13 pick is giving the league a very specific thing to track before the draft.
