The Curry-Durant Warriors debate got another numbers pass.
A Reddit post using Databallr data compared Stephen Curry's production with and without Kevin Durant from 2017 to 2019. In 1,983 minutes without Durant, Curry averaged 32.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 6.6 assists per 75 possessions on 62.1% true shooting. Golden State's offense was 7.8 points better than league average in those minutes.
With Durant on the floor across 4,618 minutes, Curry averaged 25.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.2 assists per 75. His efficiency rose to 65.5% true shooting, and the Warriors' relative offensive rating climbed to plus-13.3.
The playoff split is the hook. After Durant was injured in 2019, Curry averaged 33.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 6.2 assists on 63.1% true shooting over the next 10 playoff games. In the first two rounds with Durant, he averaged 24.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.3 assists on 60.8% true shooting.
The post also noted that Curry led Golden State in playoff EPM in both 2017 and 2018, ranking second behind LeBron James each year.
It is not a clean "Curry or Durant" answer. It shows how Curry's role changed next to Durant, then scaled back up when Golden State needed him to carry more.
