Luka Doncic Reportedly Near 105 KG Before Lakers Camp

Luka Doncic prepares for Lakers training camp after offseason work in Ljubljana
Summary

Sportklub reported that Luka Doncic is in the final phase of his Ljubljana training plan and is reportedly near 105 kilograms before joining the Lakers in Los Angeles.

Luka Doncic's offseason body work has moved into its final stage before Lakers camp.

Sportklub reported that Doncic is finishing his main individual training block in Ljubljana after a short seaside break. The work is split between the weight room and the court, but it still does not include full-intensity basketball drills or contact play.

That detail matters. Doncic is not being described as fully back into normal team-style sessions yet. He has not joined Ilirija practices at Tivoli as he did in previous years, instead training with his assistants in a smaller gym inside a new swimming pool complex.

The focus has been health first. The report said the primary objective was complete rehabilitation of injuries, followed by broader physical conditioning. Anze Macek, Doncic's longtime personal trainer who has worked with him in Dallas and Los Angeles, has led the effort again.

The early result is the headline for the Lakers. Sportklub reported that Doncic is in better physical shape than he has been in a long time and that his body weight is inside the target range, reportedly hovering around 105 kilograms.

Doncic is expected to remain in Europe until Sept. 20 before moving to Los Angeles. The Lakers open official preparations for the 2026-27 season on Sept. 29, with Media Day scheduled one day earlier.

The leadership piece is already underway. Doncic hosted a get-together in Ljubljana last month for the Lakers' heavily changed roster, including two informal practice sessions. The report framed that as an early chemistry step and a clearer move into a leadership role after a season in which LeBron James' presence still shaped the room.

Los Angeles opens the regular season on Oct. 22 against the Golden State Warriors. Before that, JJ Redick's team has five preseason games from Oct. 6 through Oct. 17, including two against Sacramento, two against Golden State and one against Denver.

It is still unclear how much Doncic will play in preseason. The signal, though, is direct: a long break, focused rehab, a lighter frame and a Lakers team being built around him before camp even starts.
