The Nuggets are keeping Spencer Jones away from Oklahoma City.
Denver matched the Thunder's two-year, $12 million offer sheet for Jones, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. NBA.com also noted that the deal was fully guaranteed and that the Nuggets had until the end of Sunday to decide whether to match.
Jones was a restricted free agent, which gave Denver the final say once Oklahoma City put the offer sheet on the table. The Thunder tried to pry away a young forward on a clear price point. The Nuggets answered by paying it.
That matters for a roster already dealing with salary pressure. Jones arrived in Denver as an undrafted player in 2024, then worked his way into the team's plans as a homegrown wing. Keeping him gives the Nuggets another forward option around Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon without having to replace that role later in the summer.
It is not a star move. It is Denver choosing continuity on the margins, and the cost is now locked in.
