The Pelicans are staying out of the Ja Morant chase.
According to Marc Stein, New Orleans has been mentioned as a possible Morant trade suitor this offseason, but The Stein Line has been advised that the team has no plans to pursue the Memphis guard.
The internal reason matters. Stein reported that one source pointed to Jeremiah Fears, drafted by New Orleans this time last year, as the Pelicans' point guard of the future.
That does not remove the Pelicans from the trade market entirely. Teams are still showing significant interest in Trey Murphy III and Herb Jones.
New Orleans is keeping the bar high. League sources told Stein that the Pelicans are asking for multiple first-round picks to part with either Murphy or Jones.
That makes the message simple: Morant is not the target, while Murphy and Jones remain available only at a premium.
