The Pelicans are at least listening on Trey Murphy III, and that makes the Warriors one of the obvious teams to monitor.
Jake Fischer reported through The Stein Line that New Orleans is no longer hanging up on teams calling about Murphy, the Pelicans' two-way wing. The Warriors' interest has been described as longstanding, and Golden State owns the No. 11 pick in a draft where New Orleans is known to want a lottery selection.
That detail matters because it gives both sides a logical starting point. If the Pelicans are serious about moving up or adding another lottery asset, the Warriors have one. If Golden State is serious about adding a ready-made wing, Murphy fits the roster better than most players who could realistically become available.
Murphy would not be a cheap target. He is one of New Orleans' cleaner fits around Zion Williamson because he can shoot, defend and stay useful without dominating the ball. Those same traits are why he makes so much sense for the Warriors.
Golden State has been trying to find more size and two-way reliability around Stephen Curry without damaging its spacing. Murphy checks that box. He can play on the wing, guard multiple matchups and keep the floor open for Curry-led actions.
The key question is how aggressive the Pelicans actually want to be. Taking calls is not the same thing as shopping Murphy, and New Orleans would need a strong return to justify moving a young player with that skill set.
For the Warriors, the No. 11 pick gives them a real seat at the table if the conversation becomes more serious. It also puts pressure on the front office to decide whether this draft pick is more valuable as a future piece or as the centerpiece of a trade for a player who can help right away.
There is no completed deal and no report that talks are advanced. The shift is simpler: New Orleans appears more willing to take calls, and Golden State has the kind of lottery pick that can turn interest into a real negotiation.
