Victor Wembanyama's first NBA Finals game had a security moment the league did not want.
During Game 1 between the Spurs and Knicks, a fan ran onto the court while San Antonio was on offense and tried to take a selfie video next to Wembanyama. The incident happened in the fourth quarter, with New York leading 92-86.
The NBA later confirmed that the fan was arrested and will be banned for life from all NBA arenas. A second person also received a lifetime ban for their role in the incident, according to the league.
It was a strange interruption in a game that already had plenty of Finals tension. Wembanyama was making his debut on the league's biggest stage, the Knicks were trying to close out a road win, and for a few seconds the spotlight shifted to a fan who crossed a line that arenas cannot treat lightly.
The league has been dealing with more visible fan-player boundary issues in recent seasons, and this one arrived in the middle of the Finals. For the NBA, the message was direct: running onto the floor for a viral clip is not a prank. It is an arrest, and it can end with a permanent ban.
