About Mikal Bridges

Bridges is an American wing widely regarded as one of the most durable and versatile two-way players in the NBA. Drafted in the first round in 2018, he has never missed a game in his NBA career and holds the active record for consecutive games played. A two-time NCAA champion at Villanova, he has developed into an elite defender, efficient scorer, and reliable playoff contributor.

Born Mikal Bridges on August 30, 1996, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he is the son of Jack Bridges and Tyneeha Rivers, who gave birth to him at age 19. He grew up in Overbrook and nearby neighborhoods before moving to Malvern, Pennsylvania, in middle school. He attended Great Valley High School, where a growth spurt to 6 feet 6 inches as a sophomore sparked his serious commitment to basketball. As a senior, he averaged 18.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.4 blocks, and 1.6 steals and was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer's All-Southeastern Pa. first team.

Bridges committed to Villanova in June 2013 and redshirted his freshman season. In his first year on the court, he helped the Wildcats win the 2016 NCAA championship, scoring 11 points in the Final Four rout of Oklahoma. As a sophomore, he emerged as a lanky forward who could score and guard the opponent's best player, averaging 9.8 points and 4.6 rebounds. As a junior, he averaged 17.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.9 steals and won his second NCAA championship in 2018. He was named the Big East Tournament MVP and earned Big East Player of the Year and National Player of the Year recognition from multiple outlets.

The Philadelphia 76ers selected Bridges 10th overall in the 2018 NBA draft but traded him to the Phoenix Suns on draft night. He made the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2019 and was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2022. He helped Phoenix reach the 2021 NBA Finals. In February 2023, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets, and in July 2024, he was dealt to the New York Knicks. He won his first NBA championship with the Knicks in 2026.

Bridges is an elite perimeter defender with length, anticipation, and the ability to guard multiple positions. Offensively, he is an efficient scorer who thrives in transition, off-ball movement, and mid-range pull-ups. His durability and consistency have made him one of the most reliable wings in the league, and his defensive versatility is prized in playoff rotations.
