Jalen Brunson

Brunson has emerged as one of the premier lead guards in the NBA, combining scoring craft with playmaking and postseason leadership. After four seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, he signed with the New York Knicks in 2022 and elevated the franchise to championship contention, culminating in a 2026 title and Finals MVP award.

Born on August 31, 1996, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Brunson grew up in a basketball household as the son of Rick Brunson, who played nine NBA seasons. The family settled in Lincolnshire, Illinois, where Jalen attended Stevenson High School. He led Stevenson to the IHSA Class 4A championship game as a sophomore and won Illinois Mr. Basketball as a senior. He participated in the McDonald's All-American Game, Jordan Brand Classic, and Nike Hoop Summit, and was named MVP of the 2015 FIBA Under-19 World Cup.

Brunson played three seasons at Villanova University. As a freshman, he contributed to the Wildcats' 2015-16 national championship run. He returned for his junior season and was named the consensus national player of the year and a first-team All-American while leading Villanova to a second national title in 2017-18.

The Dallas Mavericks selected Brunson with the 33rd overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft. He spent his first four professional seasons in Dallas, gradually expanding from a reserve role to a reliable starter. His Mavericks tenure included a run to the Western Conference Finals.

In the summer of 2022, Brunson signed with the New York Knicks as a free agent. He quickly became the team's offensive centerpiece, earning three consecutive All-Star selections and three All-NBA Second Team nods from 2024 to 2026. He set an NBA record with eight three-pointers made in a half without a miss and tied the record for nine in a single game without a miss. In 2025, he led the Knicks to their first Eastern Conference Finals in 25 years. The following season, he guided them to their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999 and their first championship since 1973, capturing both the Eastern Conference Finals MVP and NBA Finals MVP awards.
