Day'Ron Sharpe

Sharpe is a physical center whose NBA value rests on rebounding, interior finishing, and sheer energy. Drafted in the first round in 2021 and immediately traded to Brooklyn, he has spent his entire professional career with the Nets, gradually expanding his role from a deep reserve to a dependable rotation big who provides 15-20 minutes of rim running, rebounding, and defensive presence. His collegiate pedigree, five-star status, and one dominant season at North Carolina positioned him as a modern big with mobility and toughness, though his offensive limitations and injury history have kept him from becoming a full-time starter.

Born Day'Ron Yusha Sharpe on November 6, 2001, in Greenville, North Carolina, he attended South Central High School in Winterville, North Carolina. As a sophomore, he averaged 14.3 points and 9.3 rebounds. As a junior, he averaged 16.5 points and 10.7 rebounds, leading South Central to a 30-1 record and the NCHSAA Class 4A state championship. After his junior year, he transferred to Montverde Academy for his senior season, where he averaged 12.1 points and 7.3 rebounds, led Montverde to a 25-0 record and a No. 1 national ranking by MaxPreps, and was named a McDonald's All-American and Jordan Brand All-American. In AAU, he played for Garner Road. He was a five-star recruit ranked the No. 5 center and No. 22 overall player in the 2020 class by 247Sports. He committed to North Carolina on June 17, 2018, turning down Virginia, East Carolina, and Georgetown.

At North Carolina, Sharpe played one season. In his debut on November 25, 2020, he recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds against College of Charleston, becoming the fourth Tar Heel to post a double-double in his debut, joining Lennie Rosenbluth, Sam Perkins, and Cole Anthony. He averaged 9.5 points and 7.6 rebounds as a freshman. On March 24, 2021, he declared for the NBA draft. The Phoenix Suns selected him 29th overall on July 29, 2021. On August 6, 2021, Phoenix traded him and Jevon Carter to the Brooklyn Nets for Landry Shamet.

Sharpe made his NBA debut for Brooklyn and gradually earned more playing time. On January 13, 2022, against Chicago, he played 21 minutes, shot 10-for-14, and scored 20 points with 7 rebounds and 1 block, a new season high. On January 10, 2024, he was diagnosed with a left knee hyperextension suffered on January 8 against Portland and was re-evaluated two weeks later. On March 19, 2024, against New Orleans, he played 23 minutes, scored 8 points, and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds, surpassing his previous record of 15 set on December 21, 2023, against the Knicks. He also had 3 assists and 2 blocks. In the 2024-25 season, he appeared in 50 games with 2 starts, averaging 7.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. On June 30, 2025, he re-signed with the Nets on a two-year, $12 million contract.

In the 2025-26 season, Sharpe appeared in 62 games with 7 starts, averaging 8.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. On March 12, 2026, he was announced to require season-ending surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb. The injury ended what had been his most productive and consistent season as a professional, cutting short a year in which he had finally begun to look like a long-term rotation piece.

Sharpe is a classic energy big whose strengths are rebounding at both ends, finishing lobs and dump-offs, setting screens, and providing interior defense in short bursts. He is mobile for his size, runs the floor in transition, and has soft enough hands to catch passes in traffic and convert. His weaknesses are his lack of a jump shot, limited post game, and defensive limitations against stretch fives and quicker bigs. He is not a rim protector in the elite sense and can be targeted in space. His free-throw shooting is serviceable but not automatic.
