The Lakers are widely expected to re-sign Austin Reaves, according to Marc Stein, but the market waiting for him remains difficult to read.
Reaves' preference for Los Angeles and his developing partnership with Luka Doncic are both viewed as strong reasons for the sides to eventually agree on a new contract. His production has grown over the past two seasons, although rival teams may doubt they can convince him to leave the Lakers.
Brooklyn and Detroit have been mentioned as possible suitors. Neither is currently considered a certain threat. The Nets could pursue shorter contracts if they become aggressive in free agency, which may limit the type of offer they would make to Reaves.
League sources expect the Pistons to concentrate more on trade additions as they look for shooting. A major free-agent commitment would make their upcoming extension decisions more complicated. Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson will both become eligible for rookie-scale extensions from July 6 until the eve of Opening Night in October.
That leaves the Lakers in a favorable position, though Reaves' eventual price and the level of outside interest are still unclear.
