About Evan Mobley

Mobley is an American center who has established himself as one of the premier defensive big men in the NBA since being selected third overall in 2021. A versatile rim protector with offensive upside, he has anchored Cleveland's defense while expanding his scoring repertoire.

Born Evan Mobley on June 18, 2001, he grew up playing basketball with his older brother Isaiah under the guidance of their father, Eric Mobley, who played professionally and coached at the collegiate level. He attended Rancho Verde High School before transferring to Rancho Christian School, where he was a consensus five-star recruit and McDonald's All-American.

Mobley played one season at USC, where he was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, and first-team All-Pac-12. He averaged 16.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game and led the Trojans to the Elite Eight of the 2021 NCAA tournament. He declared for the 2021 NBA draft.

The Cleveland Cavaliers selected Mobley third overall in the 2021 NBA draft. He made an immediate impact as a rookie, finishing third in Rookie of the Year voting and helping Cleveland compete for a play-in spot. In the 2024–25 season, he was named to his first All-Star team and won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award, solidifying his status as an elite two-way big man.

Mobley functions as a modern defensive anchor with elite shot-blocking timing, perimeter mobility for his size, and growing offensive versatility. His USC tenure showcased a player capable of dominating on both ends. In the NBA, his development centers on expanding his shooting range, refining his post game, and establishing himself as a franchise cornerstone alongside Cleveland's young core.
