The Jaylen Brown market is still more rumor than action, but one name is now attached to Boston's side of the conversation.
Chris Mannix said teams are checking whether Brown is truly available and what the Celtics would want in return. He added that Boston is listening to calls and thinking through possible matches.
The name Mannix heard often was Evan Mobley.
"I spent some time this afternoon talking to different teams about what might the Celtics be interested in," Mannix said. "And the name in the team that came back to me a lot was Evan Mobley in the Cleveland Cavaliers."
Mannix framed the appeal clearly. Mobley is young, big, entering his prime, a former Defensive Player of the Year and starting a new max contract. For a Celtics team considering what a Brown return would need to look like, that is a serious archetype.
It is not the same as a trade being close. Fear the Sword noted that Cleveland's second-apron position would make a Brown-Mobley construction difficult. Brian Windhorst also pushed back on ESPN Cleveland, saying he does not think the Cavaliers are looking to move Mobley right now.
The fit would raise questions even if the money worked. Brown would join Donovan Mitchell and James Harden in a group with heavy shot-creation needs, while Kenny Atkinson's system depends on movement and flow.
That makes this less of a concrete rumor and more of a read on Boston's priorities. If Brown is available, the Celtics are not just hunting salary. They appear to be looking for a young, high-end frontcourt player who can anchor the next version of the roster.
