Eason is an American forward who reached the NBA through the 2022 draft after a breakout sophomore season at LSU. Drafted by the Houston Rockets, he has developed into a versatile defensive wing with rebounding instincts and transition scoring ability.
Born Tari Jordan Eason on May 10, 2001, in Seattle, Washington, he started his high school career at Garfield High School under head coach Brandon Roy. For his junior season, he transferred to Federal Way High School, where he played alongside Jaden McDaniels. He returned to Garfield for his senior season and led the team to a 3A state title, recording 21 points and 14 rebounds against Paolo Banchero and O'Dea High School in the final. He was named tournament MVP and 3A Player of the Year, averaging 23 points, eight rebounds, and three steals per game.
Eason committed to Cincinnati over Colorado and USC. As a freshman, he averaged 7.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game and earned American Athletic Conference All-Freshman Team honors. On February 26, 2021, he posted a freshman season-high of 20 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks in a win over Tulane.
For his sophomore season, Eason transferred to LSU and was named First Team All-SEC and SEC Sixth Man of the Year. He averaged 16.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game. On March 25, 2022, he declared for the 2022 NBA draft, forgoing his remaining eligibility.
The Houston Rockets selected Eason 17th overall in the 2022 NBA draft. In his Summer League debut, he tallied 14 points and 13 rebounds against Orlando. He was named to the All-NBA Summer League First Team, averaging 17.2 points, 1.8 steals, and a block. He made his NBA debut on October 19, 2022. On February 1, 2023, he scored a career-high 20 points with 13 rebounds (12 offensive) and three steals in 19 minutes against Oklahoma City.
