Victor Wembanyama

Wembanyama is a French center who has been widely regarded as a generational prospect since his teenage years. Selected first overall by the San Antonio Spurs in 2023, he has already established himself as an elite rim protector and versatile offensive player with unprecedented physical tools.

Born Victor Wembanyama on January 4, 2004, he is nicknamed Wemby and the Alien. He began his professional career at age 15 with Nanterre 92 in the French LNB Pro A in 2019. Two years later, he moved to ASVEL and won the Pro A title in his only season with the team. In 2022–23, he signed with Metropolitans 92 and became the youngest player to win the Pro A MVP award while earning Pro A Best Defender honors and leading the league in scoring, rebounds, and blocks. He was unanimously named an LNB All-Star twice, won the All-Star Game MVP once, and was a three-time Pro A Best Young Player from 2021 to 2023.

The San Antonio Spurs selected Wembanyama first overall in the 2023 NBA draft. In his rookie season, he led the league in blocks per game and was unanimously named the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year. He became the first rookie and youngest player ever to be named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team.

Wembanyama represents France internationally and has been a key figure in their senior national team setup. He is expected to anchor the French frontcourt for years to come.

Wembanyama functions as a unique two-way force with elite rim protection, perimeter shooting, ball-handling for his size, and defensive versatility. His combination of 7 ft 4 height, wingspan, and mobility makes him one of the most anticipated players in NBA history. In the NBA, his development centers on offensive refinement, physical durability, and establishing himself as a franchise cornerstone in San Antonio.
