Norchad Omier

Omier is a Nicaraguan forward who reached the NBA through a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Clippers after a decorated college career that included multiple stops and a dominant G League campaign. His journey from Nicaragua to the NBA reflects persistence, adaptability, and rapid improvement.

Born Norchad Bascom Omier Rojas on August 28, 2001, in Bluefields, Nicaragua, he grew up playing baseball and started playing basketball at age 13 after a local coach noticed his height. He trained at La Academica de Basketball Bluefields and later moved to Miami, Florida, to attend Miami Prep on a full scholarship. He averaged 26.7 points and 20.3 rebounds per game and recorded 40 points and 17 rebounds against IMG Academy.

Omier committed to Arkansas State, becoming the first Nicaraguan to sign an NCAA Division I basketball scholarship. As a freshman, he averaged 12.6 points and 12.3 rebounds and earned First Team All-Sun Belt and Freshman of the Year honors. He became the fourth Division I freshman since 1992-93 to average at least 12 points and 12 rebounds. In his sophomore season, he was named Sun Belt Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. He transferred to Miami (Florida) and averaged 13.1 points and 10 rebounds as a junior.

After going undrafted in the 2025 NBA draft, Omier joined the Cleveland Cavaliers for Summer League but was waived. He joined the Cleveland Charge and established himself as one of the most consistent frontcourt players in the G League. In 27 games, he averaged 19.3 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists while shooting 58.9 percent. He recorded 27 double-doubles and was named to the All-NBA G League Rookie Team. He finished third in voting for G League Rookie of the Year.

Omier signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Clippers and made his NBA debut on March 2, 2026, becoming the first Nicaraguan-born player to appear in an NBA game.

Omier is a physical forward with elite rebounding instincts, interior scoring, and a high motor. His game is built on putbacks, post moves, and defensive energy. He has shown rapid improvement at every level and projects as a rotation big who provides interior presence and hustle.
