Stephon Castle

Castle is an American guard who reached the NBA as a top-four pick in the 2024 draft after winning a national championship at UConn and earning NBA Rookie of the Year honors. Drafted by the San Antonio Spurs, he has quickly established himself as a versatile playmaker and rising star alongside Victor Wembanyama.

Born Stephon Javonte Castle on November 1, 2004, in Covington, Georgia, he attended Newton High School. As a sophomore, he averaged 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. As a junior, he raised his averages to 16.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. As a senior, he averaged 20.1 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, three steals, and two blocks per game and led Newton to the Class 7A state quarterfinals. He was selected to the 2023 McDonald's All-American Boys Game.

Initially rated a four-star recruit, Castle committed to UConn on November 19, 2021, over offers from Auburn, Arkansas, and Georgia Tech. By the end of his senior year, he had been re-rated as a five-star prospect. He enrolled at UConn in June 2023 and helped lead the Huskies to the 2024 NCAA national championship. He declared for the 2024 NBA draft on April 19, 2024.

The San Antonio Spurs selected Castle fourth overall on June 26, 2024. He signed with the Spurs on July 2, 2024, and made his Summer League debut on July 6. On February 4, 2025, he was named Western Conference Rookie of the Month for January. On February 7, he scored a career-high 33 points against Charlotte. At the 2025 All-Star Weekend, he won Rising Stars Challenge MVP and participated in the Slam Dunk Contest. On April 29, 2025, he was named NBA Rookie of the Year and selected to the All-Rookie First Team.

On November 12, 2025, Castle recorded his first career triple-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists against Golden State, becoming part of the first Spurs duo to record triple-doubles in the same game alongside Victor Wembanyama. On February 7, 2026, he posted a career-high 40 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists in a win over Dallas, becoming only the second Spur after David Robinson to record a 40-point triple-double.

Castle functions as a versatile combo guard with size, playmaking vision, and defensive intensity. His UConn championship pedigree and rapid NBA adaptation reflect a player with maturity beyond his years.
