Profile

About Riley Minix

Minix is an American forward who reached the NBA through the 2024 draft's undrafted free-agent pool after a decorated NAIA and mid-major college career. He has signed two-way contracts with the San Antonio Spurs and Cleveland Cavaliers, navigating injuries and roster moves while establishing himself as a productive scorer at the G League level.

Born Riley James Minix on September 22, 2000, he attended Vero Beach High School in Florida, where he broke out as a senior after a late growth spurt, averaging 17.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. He committed to Southeastern University, an NAIA program in Florida.

At Southeastern, Minix was named first-team All-Sun Conference and conference freshman of the year in his debut season. An upper-body injury after eight games sidelined him during his sophomore year. He returned to earn first-team All-American and Sun Conference Player of the Year honors in his next two seasons. After four years, he used his extra COVID-19 eligibility year to transfer to NCAA Division I, choosing Morehead State.

In his lone season at Morehead State, Minix finished in the top ten in the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, blocks, and steals. He led the conference with 18 double-doubles and was named OVC Player of the Year, first-team All-OVC, and All-Newcomer team. Despite the accolades, he went undrafted in the 2024 NBA draft.

Minix joined the San Antonio Spurs for Summer League and signed a two-way contract on October 19, 2024. He appeared in one NBA game during his rookie season and spent the first half of the year with the Austin Spurs, averaging 20.5 points and 6.9 rebounds in the Tip-Off Tournament. A torn labrum in his left shoulder required surgery in January 2025, ending his season. He re-signed with San Antonio in August 2025 but was waived in December.

On January 14, 2026, the Cleveland Charge acquired his G League rights in a three-team trade. The Cleveland Cavaliers signed him to a two-way contract on February 13, 2026.

Minix plays as a versatile forward with scoring ability at multiple levels and rebounding instincts. His jump from NAIA to OVC Player of the Year illustrates a player who thrives with increased competition. In the NBA, his path has been defined by persistence through injury, productive G League stretches, and incremental opportunities on two-way deals.
