Ryan Nembhard

Nembhard is a Canadian point guard who reached the NBA through the undrafted free-agent route after a decorated college career split between Creighton and Gonzaga. He signed a two-way contract with the Dallas Mavericks in 2025 and quickly made franchise history with a record-breaking assist performance.

Born Ryan Nembhard on March 10, 2003, he attended Montverde Academy in Florida, where he played alongside future NBA players Cade Cunningham, Scottie Barnes, and Moses Moody. He reclassified from the 2022 class to 2021 and helped Montverde win the 2021 GEICO High School Basketball Nationals, earning game MVP honors with 12 points and seven assists. He committed to Creighton in June 2020.

At Creighton, Nembhard posted 15 points and 10 assists in his college debut and averaged 11.3 points, 4.4 assists, and 1.3 steals as a freshman, earning Big East Freshman of the Year and six Big East Freshman of the Week honors. He started all 27 games before a season-ending wrist injury in February 2022. As a sophomore, he averaged 12.1 points, 4.8 assists, and 4.0 rebounds and guided Creighton to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. He then transferred to Gonzaga.

At Gonzaga, Nembhard started every game as a junior, averaging 12.6 points and 6.9 assists. As a senior, he averaged 10.5 points and led the NCAA with 9.8 assists per game, guiding the Bulldogs to their 22nd West Coast Conference tournament title. He was named to the Bob Cousy Award watch list.

After going undrafted in 2025, Nembhard signed a two-way contract with the Dallas Mavericks. On December 1, 2025, he scored a career-high 28 points against Denver. Two days later, he recorded 15 points and a career-high 13 assists in a win over Miami. On March 1, 2026, Dallas signed him to a standard multi-year contract. On April 12, he posted 15 points, nine rebounds, and a Mavericks rookie-record 23 assists in a win over Chicago, surpassing the previous record of 17 set by his coach, Jason Kidd.

Nembhard has represented Canada at multiple international tournaments, including the 2019 FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship and the 2021 FIBA Under-19 World Cup in Latvia, where he averaged 15.1 points and 6.7 assists and led Canada to bronze. His older brother Andrew also played college basketball at a high level.

Nembhard functions as a pure floor general with elite court vision, passing accuracy, and pick-and-roll mastery. His jump from Big East Freshman of the Year to NCAA assists leader demonstrates steady offensive command. In the NBA, his development centers on scoring consistency, defensive toughness, and maintaining his playmaking efficiency at the professional level.
