About Klay Thompson
Thompson is an American guard who spent the first 13 seasons of his NBA career with the Golden State Warriors, winning four championships and establishing himself as one of the greatest three-point shooters in league history. He later signed with the Dallas Mavericks after a decorated tenure in Golden State.
Born Klay Alexander Thompson on February 8, 1990, in Los Angeles, he is the son of former NBA player Mychal Thompson and brother of NBA player Mychel Thompson and MLB player Trayce Thompson. He grew up in Lake Oswego, Oregon, where he was childhood friends with Kevin Love, and later moved to Ladera Ranch, California. He attended Santa Margarita Catholic High School and averaged 21 points as a senior, leading the program to a Division III State Championship appearance.
Thompson played three seasons at Washington State and was a two-time first-team All-Pac-10 selection. He led the Cougars to back-to-back conference tournament championships and was named a Pac-10 All-Freshman Team honoree. He declared for the 2011 NBA draft.
The Golden State Warriors selected Thompson with the 11th overall pick. In 2014, he and Stephen Curry set an NBA record with 484 combined three-pointers in a season, earning the nickname Splash Brothers. They broke the record the following season with 525 and again in 2015-16 with 678. Thompson won championships with the Warriors in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. He suffered a torn ACL in the 2019 Finals and missed more than two seasons before returning in 2021-22. He later signed with the Dallas Mavericks.
Thompson is an elite shooter with one of the quickest releases in NBA history. He scores on catch-and-shoot threes, off-ball movement, and transition opportunities, and he uses his size to guard multiple positions. His ability to get hot and score in bunches has produced record-breaking performances, including a 37-point quarter and a 14-three-pointer game.
Thompson enters each season as a veteran champion and one of the most prolific shooters of all time. His trajectory from a California high school to a Washington State standout, a first-round pick, and a four-time champion reflects shooting excellence, defensive versatility, and a commitment to winning at the highest level.
