The Miami Heat shooting debate looks different after the Klay Thompson addition.
A Reddit breakdown argued that Miami now has seven players above 38 percent from three: Bobby Portis at 46 percent, Tim Hardaway Jr. at 41 percent, Andrew Wiggins at 41 percent, Gardner at 41 percent, Davion Mitchell at 41 percent, Thompson at 38 percent and Simone Fontecchio at 38 percent. The post also framed the Heat as second in the NBA in shooting depth behind only the Knicks, with four players in the top 50 in three-point percentage.
That matters because the roster is being built around spacing for Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. Giannis still bends defenses by forcing help in the paint, and the post noted that his previous teams produced high-value open looks for shooters such as Portis and AJ Green.
The question is no longer whether Miami has enough spot-up threats. On paper, the answer is yes. The cleaner concern is creation: who settles the offense when Giannis is not driving, when Bam is working from the elbow, or when a playoff defense switches the first action.
Thompson raises the shooting floor. Miami still has to prove the ball can get to those shooters on time.
