Mason Plumlee

Plumlee is an American center who has built a lengthy NBA career as a mobile big man with passing skills, rebounding, and defensive versatility. Drafted in the first round in 2013, he won an NCAA championship at Duke in 2010 and a FIBA World Cup gold medal with the United States in 2014. He has played for the Brooklyn Nets, Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Hornets, and San Antonio Spurs.

Born Mason Alexander Plumlee on March 5, 1990, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he attended Warsaw Community High School before transferring to Christ School in Arden, North Carolina. At Christ School, he helped lead the team to three state championships and a 99-8 record over his final three years. He was named a 2009 McDonald's All-American, a Jordan Brand All-American, and North Carolina Mr. Basketball.

Plumlee played four seasons at Duke, where he was a backup forward on the 2010 national championship team as a freshman. He started 11 of the first 13 games as a sophomore and averaged 7.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks as a junior. He was a 2012-13 first-team Academic All-American and a Senior CLASS Award finalist. He was selected 22nd overall by the Brooklyn Nets in the 2013 NBA draft.

Plumlee made the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2014 with Brooklyn. He was traded to Portland in 2015 and later played for Denver, Detroit, Charlotte, and San Antonio. He was a member of the 2014 United States national team that won gold at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.

Plumlee is a mobile center with solid passing instincts, rebounding efficiency, and the ability to finish around the rim. He scores on rolls, cuts, and offensive rebounds, and has developed a reliable free-throw stroke. Defensively, his lateral mobility allows him to switch screens and guard multiple positions, though he is not a dominant rim protector. He is valued for his intelligence, unselfishness, and readiness in various roles.
