The Bucks got a little room back, but not a reset.
Cap analyst Yossi Gozlan reported that Milwaukee received luxury tax relief through a set-off tied to Damian Lillard's dead cap hit. The adjustment deducts $6 million evenly across the five-year stretched term, including last season.
That moves Lillard's annual dead cap number from $22.5 million to $21.3 million through 2029-30. Gozlan also noted that the Bucks project to be about $11 million under the luxury tax if Gary Trent Jr. gets standard raises, while still carrying a roster crunch with 16 guaranteed contracts after re-signing Trent and Pete Nance.
The reaction was mostly measured because the savings work out to about $1.2 million per year. Helpful, yes. Transformative, no. Milwaukee still has to manage a tight tax line, a crowded roster and the long tail of the Lillard stretch while trying to keep enough flexibility around its next moves.
