Police arrested 17 people after a Knicks NBA Finals watch party outside Madison Square Garden became disorderly following New York's Game 2 win.

Celebrations of the Knicks' Game 2 Finals win ended with 17 arrests in Midtown Manhattan, The New York Times reported.

Several thousand fans watched the game outside Madison Square Garden on Friday night. The scene became disorderly after New York's victory, with people climbing light poles and food carts and blocking traffic.

Police took 26 people into custody. Seventeen were arrested, and nine others received court summonses for disorderly conduct. Authorities said several people resisted arrest or refused to comply with officers.

One unidentified person allegedly jumped a barrier and punched a 23-year-old female officer in the face. A police union leader said the same person later bit another officer.

The Knicks defeated the Spurs 105-104 and now lead the NBA Finals 2-0.

The gathering was one of several Finals watch parties held in Midtown Manhattan during the week. The person accused of assaulting the officers has not been publicly identified, according to the report.

Police said the crowd grew unruly as the celebration escalated outside the arena. The reported arrests and summonses followed the Knicks' second consecutive win over San Antonio.
