Early projections put Trae Young's next Wizards contract at roughly three years and $120 million, according to Marc Stein. It is a likely ballpark, not a completed agreement.
Young first has to decide what to do with his player option. He has until June 23, the first night of the NBA Draft, to activate it or move past it.
Washington also has a more expensive route available. Young is eligible for a three-year extension worth nearly $160 million until June 30.
Those deadlines leave the Wizards with a short window to settle the direction of the deal. The gap between the projected $120 million contract and the extension Young can legally receive is nearly $40 million.
