About Norman Powell
Powell is an American guard who has built a solid NBA career as a scoring wing and defensive contributor. Drafted in the second round in 2015, he won an NBA championship with the Toronto Raptors in 2019 and later earned an All-Star selection with the Miami Heat in 2026. His combination of athleticism, three-point shooting, and defensive tenacity has made him a valued rotation player across multiple franchises.
Born Norman WC Powell on May 25, 1993, in San Diego, California, he attended Lincoln High School, where he helped rebuild the basketball program and led the team to consecutive CIF San Diego Section 2A championships in 2009 and 2010. The team also captured the 2010 CIF Division II Boys' State Championship, with Powell scoring 24 points in the final. He averaged 20.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.4 steals as a senior and was named first-team all-state and league MVP. He was rated a four-star recruit by ESPN.com and committed to UCLA over San Diego State, Arizona, and Oregon.
At UCLA, Powell averaged 4.6 points as a freshman and gradually increased his production each season. In his senior year, he emerged as the team's leader and received first-team All-Pac-12 honors. He averaged 16.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists and helped UCLA reach the NCAA tournament. After the season, he declared for the 2015 NBA draft.
The Milwaukee Bucks selected Powell with the 46th overall pick and traded his rights to the Toronto Raptors. He spent six seasons in Toronto, winning the 2019 NBA championship. He later played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Miami Heat, where he was named an All-Star in 2026.
Powell is a scoring guard with explosive athleticism, a reliable three-point stroke, and the ability to finish through contact. He operates as a complementary scorer who attacks closeouts and relocates around the arc. Defensively, he uses his strength and lateral quickness to guard multiple perimeter positions. His development from a second-round pick to an All-Star reflects his work ethic and continuous improvement.
