Detroit's offseason search for offense now has Tyler Herro near the center of it.
Marc Stein reported that the Pistons have legitimate interest in acquiring Herro and that league sources say talks are taking place. The Bucks are prepared to listen to offers while also considering keeping the Milwaukee native.
That leaves two paths open. Milwaukee can test the market for shot creation, or hold onto a proven scorer. Detroit's interest makes sense because the Pistons need more shooting and playmaking around Cade Cunningham.
Norman Powell is also on Detroit's radar. Stein reported that the Pistons intend to add Powell, who is coming off his first All-Star season, to their offseason target list. Miami's situation could make that pursuit complicated after moving Jaquez, Jakucionis, Herro and Ware.
The Pistons' list is not small. It includes Herro, Charlotte's Coby White and Oklahoma City's Isaiah Joe, along with harder targets such as Trey Murphy III, Kyrie Irving and Austin Reaves.
Trajan Langdon has said Detroit will explore every possible upgrade through trades and free agency. The front office also has internal business, with Jalen Duren entering restricted free agency and Ausar Thompson eligible for a rookie scale extension.
That is the balance for Detroit. The Pistons want more help for Cunningham, but every outside swing has to fit around contracts they still need to solve at home.
