Bobby Portis did not let Norman Powell's trade comment sit there for long.
Portis responded after Powell discussed a path that could have sent him back to Miami in a larger Giannis Antetokounmpo scenario. Powell said he had heard rumblings that "Norm and Giannis sounds really good," but that the framework seemed to become, "If you want Giannis, you have to take Bobby Portis."
Portis pushed back directly.
"Yo Norm Powell, I always respected ya game from a distance," Portis wrote. "We in the same draft. Shout out to 2015. Only bout 9 of us left but keep my name out your mouth brother. I ain't no throw in piece. From champ to champ respectfully king. Be blessed brother."
Powell's original point was more about Miami's financial path than a personal attack. He mentioned the CBA rules, the hard cap, Andrew Wiggins' $30 million player option, and Nikola Jovic as pieces that would have mattered if the Heat had tried to reshape the deal.
Still, Portis focused on the label. For a veteran champion who has built his value on toughness, shooting, and playoff credibility, being framed as the extra money in a star trade was enough to draw a public answer.
