About Quentin Grimes
Grimes is a combo guard whose NBA career began with a draft-night trade after a standout junior season at Houston. He arrived in the league with a reputation as a prolific scorer and clutch shooter, built on a high school career that made him one of the most decorated prospects in Texas.
Born on May 8, 2000, in The Woodlands, Texas, Grimes attended The Woodlands College Park High School, where he became the first player in school history to letter and start on varsity as a freshman. He left high school with 2,863 points, 854 rebounds, and 582 assists, earning All-Greater Houston Player of the Year, Gatorade State Player of the Year, and McDonald's All-American honors. He was projected as a top-five pick in the 2019 NBA draft before enrolling at Kansas.
Grimes committed to Kansas in November 2017 but averaged only 8.4 points as a freshman. He declared for the 2019 draft, withdrew, and transferred to Houston with immediate eligibility. As a sophomore, he averaged 12.1 points and 3.7 rebounds, then broke out as a junior with 17.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. He scored a career-high 33 points against Western Kentucky, earned AAC tournament MVP, and shared AAC Player of the Year honors as Houston reached the 2021 Final Four.
The Los Angeles Clippers selected Grimes 25th overall in the 2021 NBA draft and traded him to the New York Knicks. He signed with New York in August 2021 and scored 27 points with seven three-pointers in his first career start. He later played in the 2022 Summer League Championship and earned All-NBA Summer League First Team honors in July 2022.
In February 2024, Grimes was traded from the Knicks. He has since continued his career as a scoring guard capable of operating off the dribble and connecting from deep. His skill set, built through two collegiate programs and high-level high school production, positions him as a perimeter threat at the NBA level.
Grimes functions as a score-first guard with a smooth shooting stroke and the ability to heat up quickly. At Houston, he demonstrated three-level scoring potential and clutch shot-making in tournament settings. In the NBA, his development centers on shot selection, defensive consistency, and expanding his playmaking in structured offensive sets.
