About Javonte Green

Green is an American-Montenegrin forward who reached the NBA after a five-year professional stint in Europe and has played for five franchises as an athletic, defensive-minded wing. His career reflects a path from a single Division I offer to an NBA rotation player through persistence and overseas development.

Born on July 23, 1993, in Petersburg, Virginia, Green moved to Alberta, Virginia, at age 12 and attended Brunswick High School, where he played for former NBA guard Bryant Stith. As a senior, he averaged 18.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 3.1 steals and led the Bulldogs to the VHSL Group AA Division 3 state title. He was named first-team All-State and Virginia Co-Player of the Year. He committed to Radford, the only Division I school to offer him a scholarship.

At Radford, Green played four seasons and became the program's all-time leader in rebounds with 1,064 and steals with 245. He was named First Team All-Big South twice and Defensive Player of the Year as a senior. He finished second in scoring with 1,911 points and played 133 games, the most in school history. On November 28, 2021, Radford retired his number 2 jersey.

After going undrafted in 2015, Green signed with Marin Peixegalego in Spain's third division and was named LEB Plata MVP. He then played in Italy for Pallacanestro Trieste and in Germany for ratiopharm Ulm before joining the Boston Celtics in 2019. He played one and a half seasons in Boston before being traded to the Chicago Bulls in 2021. After nearly three seasons with Chicago, he played in the G League for the Santa Cruz Warriors and returned to Chicago late in 2023-24. He later played for New Orleans and Cleveland before joining Detroit.

Green is an athletic wing with elite leaping ability, defensive intensity, and finishing at the rim. He thrives in transition, generates steals with active hands, and provides energy as a bench player. His offensive game is limited to cuts, lobs, and occasional corner threes, but his defensive versatility and hustle make him a situational contributor.

Green enters each season as a veteran wing with NBA and international experience, carrying the distinction of a Radford jersey retirement and a five-year European apprenticeship. His trajectory from a single scholarship offer to a multi-franchise NBA career reflects athleticism, defensive tenacity, and a willingness to grind through multiple professional levels.
