About Sam Hauser

Hauser is an American forward who reached the NBA through the undrafted free-agent route after a decorated five-year college career split between Marquette and Virginia. He signed with the Boston Celtics and has established himself as a reliable floor-spacing wing with size and shooting precision.

Born Samuel David Hauser on December 8, 1997, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, he played basketball, golf, and football at Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH). His father, Dave, was an assistant basketball coach, and his younger brother, Joey, was a teammate for his final two years. As a junior, Hauser averaged 18 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists, led the state with a 50.6 three-point percentage, and led SPASH to a 27–1 record and the WIAA Division 1 state championship.

As a senior, Hauser helped SPASH achieve an undefeated season and a second consecutive Division 1 state title. He averaged 18.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, four assists, and 3.1 blocks per game and was named Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year, sharing Wisconsin Mr. Basketball honors with teammate Trevor Anderson. He committed to Marquette on May 17, 2015.

At Marquette, Hauser averaged 8.8 points and five rebounds as a freshman, shooting 45.3 percent from three-point range. As a sophomore, he averaged 14.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists. In his junior season alongside his brother Joey, he averaged 14.9 points and a team-high 7.2 rebounds, earning All-Big East second team honors. He announced his decision to transfer after the season.

Hauser completed a graduate season at Virginia in 2020–21, posting 50 percent from the field, 42 percent from three, and 90 percent from the free throw line, coming up just .004 short of officially qualifying for the 50–40–90 club. After going undrafted in 2021, he signed with the Boston Celtics.

Hauser functions as a floor-spacing forward with elite catch-and-shoot mechanics, size to contest defensively, and a high basketball IQ. His college shooting splits, particularly the near 50–40–90 season at Virginia, demonstrated elite efficiency. In the NBA, his role centers on spot-up shooting, off-ball movement, and providing spacing for primary offensive creators.
