Ron Harper Jr.

Harper is an American forward who reached the NBA through the undrafted free-agent route after a decorated four-year career at Rutgers in the Big Ten Conference. The son of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper, he built a reputation as a versatile scorer and clutch shooter before signing two-way contracts in the professional ranks.

Born Ronald Harper Jr. on April 12, 2000, in Paterson, New Jersey, he grew up in Upper Saddle River and Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. He attended Don Bosco Preparatory High School in Ramsey, where he averaged 10.1 points as a junior and helped the program win its first Non-Public A state title in 47 years. As a senior, he averaged 20.8 points and 3.9 rebounds and led Don Bosco to a second straight Non-Public A championship. He was named North Jersey Player of the Year by The Record.

Rated a four-star recruit by Rivals, Harper committed to Rutgers on August 11, 2017, choosing the Scarlet Knights over Nebraska. As a freshman, he averaged 7.8 points and 3.1 rebounds. He improved to 12.1 points and 5.8 rebounds as a sophomore, earning All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and Second Team All-Met honors.

As a junior, Harper averaged 14.9 points and 5.9 rebounds and helped Rutgers reach its first NCAA Tournament in 30 years. He declared for the 2021 NBA draft but returned to school. On December 9, 2021, he tied his career high with 30 points and 10 rebounds against Purdue and hit a game-winning buzzer-beater from just inside halfcourt, giving Rutgers its first victory over a No. 1 ranked team. He earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors.

Harper declared for the 2022 NBA draft after Rutgers' First Four exit and went undrafted. He signed a two-way contract with the Toronto Raptors on July 14, 2022. He later signed with the Boston Celtics, continuing his career as a depth forward with size and shooting ability.

Harper functions as a forward with perimeter shooting range and the size to defend multiple positions. His college trajectory, from solid freshman to All-Big Ten performer, reflects steady offensive growth. At the NBA level, his game centers on spot-up shooting, physicality on the wing, and making the most of limited rotational minutes.
