Born Trey Alexander on May 2, 2003, in Oklahoma City, he attended Heritage Hall School and was named Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year after averaging 23.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, four assists, and 2.1 steals as a senior. He was rated a four-star recruit and initially committed to Auburn in November 2020 before decommitting and signing with Creighton.

At Creighton, Alexander played in all 35 games as a freshman and was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team, averaging 7.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. He became the starting point guard after Ryan Nembhard suffered a season-ending injury and averaged 11.6 points and 4.3 assists in the final eight games. He entered his sophomore season as the starting shooting guard.

After going undrafted in the 2024 NBA draft, Alexander joined the Denver Nuggets for Summer League and signed a two-way contract on July 10, 2024. On July 3, 2025, he signed a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. He is the cousin of NBA guard Mike Conley Jr.

Alexander functions as a combo guard with size, playmaking vision, and the ability to score at multiple levels. His Creighton tenure showcased a player who could step into a larger role when needed. In the NBA, his development centers on three-point consistency, defensive versatility, and proving himself on two-way contracts.
