About Johni Broome

Broome is an American forward who entered the NBA as a second-round pick in 2025 after a decorated college career that spanned Morehead State and Auburn. He has played for the Philadelphia 76ers, where he has contributed as a developmental frontcourt piece after a record-setting tenure in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Born on July 19, 2002, Broome attended Plant City High School in Florida and grew about six inches in two years. He transferred to Tampa Catholic for his senior year, averaging 19.6 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks and earning Hillsborough County Player of the Year. He committed to Morehead State over Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, and Bryant.

At Morehead State, Broome immediately assumed a key role after a teammate's preseason injury. As a freshman, he was named OVC Player of the Year and First Team All-OVC, breaking the program record for Freshman of the Week honors with nine, surpassing Kenneth Faried. He averaged 13.8 points, nine rebounds, and 1.9 blocks. As a sophomore, he averaged 16.8 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 3.9 blocks and was named Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-OVC. He transferred to Auburn in April 2022.

At Auburn, Broome became one of the top players in the SEC. In the 2024-25 season, he led the Tigers in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks and helped Auburn secure a top seed in the NCAA tournament. He was named The Sporting News Men's College Basketball Player of the Year. The 76ers selected him with the 35th overall pick in the 2025 draft.

Broome is a versatile forward with a strong interior game, shot-blocking instincts, and a developing face-up jumper. He scores on post-ups, putbacks, and short rolls, and he uses his length to protect the rim and rebound at a high rate. His offensive game expanded in college to include more mid-range counters and playmaking reads.

Broome begins his professional career with the Philadelphia 76ers, carrying the pedigree of an OVC Player of the Year, a Sporting News National Player of the Year award, and a decorated two-stop college career. His trajectory from a late-growing high schooler to a mid-major standout and NBA draft pick reflects physical development and consistent improvement at every level.
