Alex Sarr

Sarr is a French center who entered the NBA as the second overall pick in the 2024 draft after a developmental route through European academies, the American Overtime Elite league, and Australian professional basketball. Born Alexandre Dam Sarr on April 26, 2005, in Bordeaux, France, he grew up in a basketball-oriented family in Bordeaux and later Toulouse. He started playing at age four. In 2019, he joined the youth academy of Real Madrid Baloncesto, one of the premier developmental programs in Europe, and spent two seasons with the club's junior teams. He built a foundation in fundamentals, footwork, and defensive positioning during his time in Spain.

In 2021, Sarr moved to the United States to join the newly launched Overtime Elite league in Atlanta. The league offered a professional pathway with a guaranteed minimum salary of at least ,000 annually.
