VJ Edgecombe

Born Valdez Drexel Edgecombe Jr. on July 30, 2005, in Bimini, The Bahamas, he grew up in the Abaco Islands and first played basketball in local youth leagues. He participated in development camps organized by NBA player Buddy Hield, whom he described as a mentor. He described himself as coming from nothing, living off a generator due to limited electricity. He immigrated to the United States in ninth grade, attending Victory International Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida, before transferring to Long Island Lutheran in Brookville, New York.

Edgecombe was a consensus five-star recruit and one of the top players in the 2024 class. He committed to Baylor and made an immediate impact as a freshman, showcasing elite athleticism, defensive versatility, and scoring ability. He declared for the 2025 NBA draft after his freshman season.

The Philadelphia 76ers selected Edgecombe third overall in the 2025 NBA draft. He signed with Philadelphia and immediately entered the starting lineup, carrying significant expectations as a top-three pick.
