About LeBron James

James is one of the most accomplished and influential basketball players of all time, combining size, skill, and basketball IQ in a package that has produced four NBA championships, four MVP awards, and the league's all-time scoring record. Selected first overall in 2003 out of high school, he has redefined longevity and excellence across three franchises while maintaining elite performance into his third decade.

Born LeBron Raymone James on December 30, 1984, in Akron, Ohio, he was raised by his mother, Gloria James, who was 16 at the time of his birth. He attended St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, where he was named Ohio Mr. Basketball three times and Gatorade National Player of the Year twice. He appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated as a junior, labeled The Chosen One. He skipped college and was selected first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2003 NBA draft.

James spent his first seven seasons in Cleveland, winning his first two MVP awards and leading the Cavaliers to their first NBA Finals appearance in 2007. In 2010, he joined the Miami Heat in a highly publicized free agency decision and won back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013, earning Finals MVP both times. He returned to Cleveland in 2014 and delivered the franchise's first championship in 2016, overcoming a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors.

In 2018, James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. He won his fourth NBA championship in 2020 inside the NBA bubble, earning Finals MVP. In 2023, he became the NBA's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. In February 2025, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, then moved to the Washington Wizards. He has been selected to 20 All-Star teams and earned 13 All-NBA First Team honors.

James is a point forward with elite court vision, passing, and transition scoring. His combination of size, speed, and skill allows him to play all five positions. He has developed his three-point shooting and post game over time while maintaining his ability to drive and finish through contact. Defensively, his intelligence and athleticism have made him a capable wing stopper, though his defensive focus has shifted with age.

Off the court, James founded the LeBron James Family Foundation and opened the I Promise School in Akron, Ohio. He has been named to Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people multiple times.
